How to create a Return

Written by TIG Freight

Create return shipments that can be completed by your customer, supplier, or another third party. Open360 generates a secure return link that allows the return sender to enter the remaining shipment information, print their label, and lodge the freight with the carrier.

Returns are ideal for:

  • Customer home returns

  • Warranty and repair returns

  • Returning stock to a warehouse

  • Supplier returns

  • Any situation where the sender is not your business

How Returns Work

Unlike a standard shipment, the shipment is initiated by your business but completed by the return sender.

  • Your business creates the return request in Open360.

  • Open360 generates a secure return link.

  • The return sender receives the link by email.

  • The sender enters the remaining shipment information and books the pickup. This action manifests the shipment as well.

    • The shipment becomes visible in your Manifested Shipments table for tracking and management.

  • The sender prints the shipping label and manifest.

  • The freight is handed over to the carrier.

Creating a Return

  • Navigate to Shipment tab.

  • Select the ▼ dropdown beside the Create Shipment button.

  • Choose Create Return.

  • Enter the return shipment details.

  • Review the sender and receiver details carefully.

  • Click Create Return to submit the return request. This return will now appear in your Returns table.

    • After submission, Open360 sends the return sender a secure email containing their unique return link which they can click book a pickup time after reviewing and confirming the shipment.

  • When the return sender submits the pickup, the return will move from the Returns table to the Manifested table.

Note 📝

When creating a return, your normal default sender address is automatically reversed and displayed as the receiver address, as the freight is being sent back to your business.

What the Return Sender Does 💡

Using the secure return link, the return sender can:

  • Click "Book a Pickup" (the secure return link) in the email they receive.

  • Confirm the shipment details and package information.

  • Select a pickup-time period

  • Print the shipping labels and affix it to the package

  • Prepare the package for collection and hand over to the carrier.

No Open360 login is required.

Tracking Return Shipments 📌

Once completed, the return shipment is treated like any other shipment in Open360.

You can:

  • Track shipment progress

  • View shipment status updates

  • Run reports

  • Monitor delivery performance

  • Search for returns in the Shipments table

Tip 💡

  • The sender completes the shipment using the secure return link provided by email, they don’t need a login to Open360.

  • Use Returns whenever another party needs to confirm shipment details (such as pickup date and time) or print the shipping label or paperwork themselves.
